Weekend Whaaaaaaaaaaat?

warriorWeekend Warrior. Does this term send chills down anyone else’s spine?  What is it about those two words that makes those non-full-time climbers that organize and erupt on crags Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays feel less worthy? Less baller? Less devoted?

Or, maybe is this a personal hang up.

Maybe we should just take the title by storm and create a world of our own.

1. We could start with T-Shirts, cause isn’t that the best way to separate ourselves from other people who are obviously not part of us.  Maybe they could be sold to get the word around, grow support for our kind.warrior-tshirt

2.  Then the next obvious step would be our own beer tent, right? This place is for US and not for ANYONE else.  Party with those that understand your road trippin’ woes, someone that can console you that you got here yesterday and now are leaving tomorrow. Whiskey, Corona, whatever your taste, it’d be here for you – but don’t forget your t-shirt.

3. Last, but certainly not least, we’d absolutely need our own band. A band to inspire and a band to encourage your sad hearts – because, afterall, how could 2 outdoor sessions be worth a 7 or 12 hour drive two ways in 3 days!?  You might as well as at your gym and climb some plastic, right?  So this Weekend Warrior band would sing the night away at our tent, sporting our t-shirts and drinking our alc. It would be great.

So, maybe I am a little bitter. Why? Can anyone explain to me how this term could so shoot down our efforts to get to rock on the weekends? I mean, I am doing something with the bachelor and grad degree, isn’t that a good thing?  Am I crazy, does anyone else get this feeling?

  1. Wow. You are preaching to the choir here. I haven’t really thought about it too much, but yeah, that term is a bit annoying. It is like we are fighting the masses to get out of our life to the outdoor life – it really isn’t that hard!

  2. Allison, it’s all about balance and perspective! If you climbed full time then you’d be using your weekends for something else. At least that’s my opinion. =)
